For the keen hiker, there are a plethora of opportunities awaiting in Sri Lanka ‘s diverse and luscious hill country. The beautiful area of Haputale and Diyatalawa, located in the hill country of Sri Lanka, provides a base from which to try out a wide variety of hiking and trekking tours through jungle, across tea estates, and up mountains. The river and numerous waterfalls in Sri Lanka are another key attraction that allows hikers and trekkers to enjoy a refreshing dip en-route!
Ella in Sri Lanka is beautiful, they said. ‘The closest thing to an English country village’ and the perfect place to slow down, we’d read.
I dolefully thought of this when darting across the thundering traffic to dodge yet another taxi driver insisting on taking me somewhere I didn’t want to go. The main street, stacked with milkshake huts and charm-free cafes, is a loud and roiling stretch of conveniences set up for the tourist alone.
Only in leaving the village and literally heading for the hills will you see the Ella of the guidebooks: grand and expansive vistas that plummet and soar as far as the eye can fly.
Nowhere are they more impressive than at the summit of Ella Rock, a dramatic peak approximately 5km from town. Hiking Ella Rock is fun, confusing, taxing, rewarding.
Single Tree hill/One tree hill Mountain is the ninth highest peak in Sri Lanka (2100 meters), rising only 250 meters above the Nuwara Eliya city. Singletree hill is easily accessible by use of the road across the tea estate.
Single Tree Hill Mountain is one of the most panoramic vantage points of Nuwara Eliya which gives an extraordinary view of the city below where you could absorb the beauty of the Haggala Mountain, Pidurutalagala range, Lake Gregory and the whole of the northern slice of the Horton Plains. A traveler would have a wonderful time walking up the hill in the midst of the immaculate Nuwara Eliya atmosphere; the locals too are very kind and well-mannered people who will help you around the city at any time.
Pidurangala is a massive rock formation which offers spectacular views of magnificent greenery. The summit of Pidurangala is also the best possible place to get a fantastic view of Sigiriya rock fortress. Like Sigiriya, Pidurangala was formed by volcanic activity. Pidurangala appears larger than Sigiriya and its upper surface is steeply sloped.
Spectacular views await you at the summit of Pidurangala. A vast area of flat rock stretched out with a small bunch of trees and shrubs huddle in its center. It will make people feel as though they are on the top of the world. It is one of the best places to get the most amazing sunset views.
It has seven peaks as the name of it. Since most of the Government University students use this track for their annual hiking sessions it’s much popular than others among the young generation in Sri Lanka.
Sun was shining upon heads too hard by the noon while we reached to the first peak of the Hanthana Range.
With the clear sky, we were lucky enough to see the beauty of Kandy city from the first peak
